BUMDesma Wute Monuwo’s Livestock Enterprise
One of the key business sectors managed by BUMDesma Wutemonuwo is livestock farming, with a primary focus on cattle. The potential of Parumpanai and Kawata villages provides a strong foundation for livestock development—offering abundant land, natural feed resources, and strong community support. Many residents have backgrounds and genuine interest in animal husbandry, making this sector highly promising for sustainable growth.
The livestock potential in Parumpanai and Kawata Villages is fully supported by PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. Through its Community Empowerment Development Program for Independent Rural Area Development (PKM PKPM), PT Vale Indonesia Tbk provides assistance for livestock development in agricultural-livestock areas and non-timber forest product processing. The support includes:
-
Cattle farming training,
-
Establishment of grass feed gardens,
-
Construction of cattle barns,
-
Provision of cattle farming facilities and infrastructure,
-
Procurement of cattle breeds.
The assistance provided is handed over to the villages and recorded as village assets. As part of a collaborative effort within the designated area, the management is entrusted to the BUMDesma, appointed through an inter-village deliberation. Cattle farming has become one of the core businesses managed by BUMDesma. For daily operations, BUMDesma partners with local workers, employing two cattle keepers in each location — Parumpanai and Kawata. Launched in 2023 and continuing into the present, the program is a joint initiative between PT Vale Indonesia Tbk and BUMDesma Wutemonuwo. One of its main focuses is the development of a cattle fattening program, aiming to boost productivity and support the economic well-being of the community.
This program aims to improve the welfare of rural communities, particularly by supporting equitable food security across all regions. The involvement of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk in this initiative represents a form of social contribution to villages whose customary lands are part of the company’s operational area. Not all villages fall within the scope of this empowerment program. The areas included in PT Vale Indonesia Tbk’s development initiatives cover the districts of Towuti, Matano, parts of Nuha, as well as Wasuponda and Malili. Under the coordination of BUMDesma Wute Monuwo, the villages of Parumpanai and Kawata have become the sites for the construction of two cattle farming facilities. These facilities are the result of a direct collaboration between PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, the local government, and BUMDesma. The initiative is expected to deliver a positive impact on the local economy while ensuring the sustainability of the livestock sector in the region. The collaborative system between PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, the local government, BUMDesma, and the community is illustrated as follows

Types of Cattle
The BUMDesma Wutemonuwo cattle farming program manages several superior breeds, carefully selected for their resilience, productivity, and meat quality. The types of cattle raised include:
Types of Feed
The cattle are fed Pakchong Napier Grass, which is different from the common elephant grass. This variety is the result of a cross between Pennisetum purpureum and Pennisetum glaucum. Pakchong Napier Grass is chosen as the primary feed for these cattle because of its high nutritional content, which significantly accelerates livestock productivity. Additionally, its ease of cultivation makes it a profitable and sustainable choice for farmers.
Cattle Fattening System
